Try It Anyway

I lost her somewhere between caretaking and Elmwood Avenue
The woman with dancing feet, spontaneous beach trips, and giggling pillow talk
She was supposed to stay, but I think she took a wrong turn at the altar
Went from partnership to mothering, straddling to directing
I lost her thrice
That survivor girl with long hair, level head, and taut skin
One day, I saw her approaching from afar
Slowly swaying, not quite skipping over the hill
On an incline she reintroduced herself
Stood center stage and belted out Sweet Honey in the Rock
Her feet made primal moves, stage left, singing "Christ, you know I love you"
She found me, we embraced in scaffolding, wearing a face not our own
She found me, in late night drives to magical places
Amongst new friends, welcoming arms
We became one woman again
A free woman choosing flight and honesty
Honestly, she's happier now than the last time I saw her
I tried to clip off hairs in hopes of heaven
Sleeping on a pull-out couch
Craving a shutter, stroke
Disappearance
I was engulfed in that spikey feeling
Tingling glass flaming up
Trying to find her, where has she gone?
Trying everything to be better
I think I found her, but she comes
And goes
