I've stared into the face of death,
I won’t bother to hold my breath,
Exhale the smoke. Inhale, feel the burn in ya chest
I came out on the other side; I passed the test
Stay rockin’ with me, I'll take care of the rest.
The start of my life wasn't mine to command,
Came out the gutters and yet still I stand.
Been through fiery trials and suffered at the hands of man.
I spit in the face of adversity, just because I can.
My enemy? Hah, He's my biggest fan.
Haters gone hate
I still show up, never early, never late
Witnesses shout out, “yea she ate”
And did, called to a higher purpose, call it fate
I do what I do, all for heaven’s sake.
Used to slit my wrist just to watch the blood flow
Like it was the house of horrors show
My favorite channel for awhile tho,
Darkness came knockin’, like a fiend, gimme mo
Way past hellos, now we just touch, pass, go
My heart was stone cold,
Then I met God and swear I struck gold,
Once to the devil; my soul I sold,
Then came the light, said to the serpent, haven't you been told?
She's been redeemed all mine; this was all foretold.
Love that I never knew
Filled me, and lit me up anew
Once was blind and my vision askew
But God cleared the way and gave me a better view,
I'm not perfect, it's like the first time, still brand new.
I never get tired of singing Him praises up
Shaking the foundations of the system that tries to rise up
Holy Spirit, you're welcome here, please fill my cup.
Overflow, feed the children. If you’re hungry, look up.
Your redemption draws nigh, with living water in his cup.
I stand ten toes down for mine
All in for the God that whispers “you are mine”
Can't tell me nothin, nobody can steal my shine
I'm all grit and grace, love the thrill of the grind
Soul tethered to the eternal, alpha, omega, I'm in a willful bind.
Pride ruled me, hatred fueled me,
Swallowed it down, and it tastes like ash.
I felt lower than low, like a piece of trash,
But light still calls, writing that check to cash,
When darkness tries to come back, next time I'll pass.
Cling tight to the only thing that matters,
God who is forever and ever, his kingdom will never pass
His reign will forever last.
