Slow down
Breathe
Take a moment with me
To feel the air on your skin
Your feet pressing into the ground
The beating of your heart pumping
Smell
The scent of your clothes
The room you are in
The grass outside
The weather that's coming
Look and see
The colors around you
That surrounds your routines
The sun in the sky
The dirt on the ground
The smile that once lit up the room
That's now faded and flat
But we keep pushing, right?
Pushing for the next big thing
The next accomplishment
Goal. Task. What you were told is needed
In order to be successful
Slow down.
What about you?
When was the last time you gave YOURSELF that type of effort?
That type of love. Determination. Respect. Care.
The last time you did something for your physical body.
A walk, run, jog, stretch.
A visit to the doctor.
A shift in diet
Slow down.
What about your mind?
What books have you read?
Not to be tested on, but what brought you joy?
Meditation? Prayer?
What about that voice?
You know the one.
The one that always lets you know
EXACTLY what you could’ve done better.
Criticizes every step.
Reinforces doubt and shame.
Have you sat down and talked to them?
Slow down.
Tell me about your emotional well-being.
Are you constantly fighting the emotions that come up?
Believing that you shouldn't feel this way.
They don't matter because they don't change what you have to do.
They are simply something you must overcome to reach your goals.
Baby, slow down.
You can accomplish everything in the world.
But you'll never feel successful
Feel like you're doing enough or are enough until you slow down.
Until you work on yourself.
Inside and out.
Until you KNOW who you are.
Apart from your friends, your family,
your partners, your job, career, goals, and expectations.
Apart from all the things you believe to be part of who you are.
The root of your soul.
Your true essence.
So breathe, love.
Slow down the chaos.
So you CAN accomplish all the things meant for you.
Without all the internal noise. Chatter. Doubt.
But with a true inner knowing of who you are and where you're going.
